(July 6, 2011) OAKLAND, Calif.—Cogent Legal, a startup litigation graphics and consulting firm, is poised to enhance its services and expand its client base with the hire of two seasoned professionals in media production and litigation support: Senior Producer Dave Nugent and Senior Advisor Kevin L. Nichols. Together, they strengthen the firm’s ability to create persuasive multimedia presentations that help attorneys achieve maximum results.

Cogent Legal’s founder, attorney Morgan C. Smith, opened his business in early 2011 to assist attorneys in presenting a case in the most clear, compelling and tactical way. Smith previously worked as a litigator and founding partner at The Arns Law Firm of San Francisco.

Dave Nugent has joined Cogent Legal to work closely with Smith to develop and produce presentations that attorneys can use in mediation or trial. For over twelve years, Nugent oversaw the creation of interactive visual presentations for clients such as Paul Hastings, Manatt, Farella Braun, Pillsbury and the state Attorneys General Office. “From concept to delivery, Dave knows how to work with teams of attorneys to produce convincing presentations for ADR or trial that combine strategy with storytelling,” says Smith.

Kevin L. Nichols is collaborating with Smith in the areas of social media and trial technology while also enhancing Cogent Legal’s ability to meet clients’ myriad pretrial and trial needs. Nichols brings with him an expertise in three distinct areas: litigation support, diversity, and business development using social media. He has worked in multifaceted capacities in some of the most prolific international law firms in the country, such as Morrison & Foerster, Paul Hastings, Heller Ehrman and Holland & Knight.

Cogent Legal’s services include 3D animations that show accident reconstructions and product design, medical illustrations that explain injuries, and interactive timelines and storyboards that present the facts of a case in an easy-to-understand narrative. All of Cogent Legal’s productions stem from strategic consultation that leverages Smith’s background as a successful trial attorney.
